Fermi Siren Test: The Public Safety Department wishes to keep you aware of activities involving our City and the Fermi Nuclear Power Plant located in Monroe County. Our City is located within a 10-mile radius, to the north of the plant. Thus, Gibraltar falls within the Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ). Wayne County Emergency Management Division is the agency in charge of all emergency planning for the communities in Wayne County that fall within the EPZ, (Gibraltar, Flat Rock, Rockwood, and center/south portions of Brownstown). On the last Wednesday of each month, between 9:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. the Fermi siren is tested. We will  also test our Emergency Sirens located at South Gibraltar Road and Stoeflet (Pump  Station) and on Middle Gibraltar Road and Meadowlark Blvd. If there were an actual emergency at the Fermi Plant, you would need to tune your radio to either WJR (AM 760) or WWJ (AM 950), for information and/or instructions. Our City also uses the Emergency Siren for other emergencies as they occur.

• During the year, we receive complaints about portable basketball backboards and skateboard ramps being used or left on the public street. Section 15-21 of the City Ordinance prohibits obstructing any public street or sidewalk. These items must be removed from the public street and utilized on private driveways or in rear yards only.
• According to State of Michigan traffic laws, transportation means such as “Go-Peds” or motorized scooters / skateboards are listed as mopeds. Thus, the operator needs a moped license, helmet, and must obey all traffic signs and signals. The Go-Ped needs to be equipped with a headlight, brake light, and a seat. Violators’ subject themselves to a court ticket and potential fines

Hope Not Handcuffs is an initiative launched by Families Against Narcotics (FAN) in 2017. The program is a collaborative effort between FAN, law enforcement, and community organizations to find viable treatment options for individuals seeking help to reduce their dependence on prescription medication, alcohol, heroin, or other drugs. It is a solution.

How It Works

A person struggling with any substance use disorder can come to any of the participating police agencies or community partners and ask for help. They will be greeted with support, compassion, and respect. If accepted into the program*, the individual will be guided through a brief intake process to ensure proper treatment placement.
 
If a person is uninsured or has Medicaid, we will work directly with the local Office of Substance Abuse Services for placement. If a person has private insurance, we will provide them with treatment options covered by their plan. Regardless, our team will work to get them into treatment as soon as possible. We have more than 600 volunteer Angels, and one of them will help with paperwork and provide compassionate support until a treatment option is found.

Crisis Services ensures appropriate access to behavioral health services and crisis management for adults and children experiencing a crisis, including assessment, care coordination, and referrals to the most appropriate level of care. The DWIHN crisis services department consists of dedicated staff trained in the DWIHN crisis continuum who are consistently available for all those experiencing a behavioral health crisis.

• Mobile Crisis Intervention teams that are responsible for screening to determine appropriate level of care for adults experiencing behavioral health crisis
• Mobile Crisis Stabilization Teams for post-disposition follow-up when an adult does not go to an inpatient level of care or is placed in a Crisis Residential Unit (CRU). COPE Requests for services originate from Emergency Departments, Specialized Residential and SIL Homes.
• Crisis Stabilization Units (CSUs) for adults in crisis with up to 23 consecutive hours of supervised care to help de-escalate the severity of the crisis, to provide urgent behavioral health care, and to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations.  Open 24 hours.  Located at 33505 Schoolcraft in Livonia.

• The Children’s Center operates the Children’s Crisis Care Center, 313-324-8557, M-F from 8:00am-8:00 pm
• Mobile Crisis Services are provided by New Oakland Family Centers and The Guidance Center 24/7.  Emergency Departments contact the DWIHN Access Center (Wellplace) at 1-800-241-4949 to have teams dispatched.
